MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL - Authorities say a driver going the wrong way was involved in a fatal multi-vehicle collision in Southwest Miami-Dade Sunday afternoon, WSVN reports.

According to investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of a Mercedes-Benz SUV was traveling east in the westbound lanes of Quail Roost Drive near Southwest 113th Avenue at about 4:30 p.m., causing a pileup that involved five vehicles.

A 58-year-old man who was a front seat passenger in one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene. The man's father was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.  Five other people were transported to area hospitals.

The FHP and local emergency crews responded to the wreck, which scattered pieces of the vehicles across the roadway.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. The area near the crash was shut down for at least five hours while the scene was being cleared.
