LAUDERHILL, FL - A 19-year-old man has turned himself in after fleeing the scene of a crash that killed one woman and injured two small children Monday morning.
According to Local 10, the accident occurred at the intersection of State Road 7 and Northwest 16th Street. The Surveillance video shows a red SUV attempting to make a left turn when it is struck on the passenger's side by a green BMW, causing it to overturn twice and strike a utility pole.
Witnesses jumped into action, pulling two kids from the back of the BMW and assisting a man and a woman trapped in the SUV. The occupants in the SUV were both rushed to a local hospital, where the woman died. The man remains in serious condition.
When police arrived on the scene, the driver of the BMW and two children were nowhere to be found. The children were discovered hours later, when their mother drove them to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The driver of the BMW was later identified as 19-year-old Decarius Richards. Richards turned himself in on Tuesday and is currently being held on a $300,000 bond.
