LAKE WORTH BEACH, FL - The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says charges are pending in a crash that killed a pedestrian on New Year's Day.

According to WFLX, a 29-year-old man was hit by a southbound Honda Odyssey minivan as he was lighting fireworks in the road on North C Street in Lake Worth Beach shortly after midnight.

The victim, identified as Rudy Leonel Martin Jimenes, was then dragged by the vehicle to a nearby intersection. Jimines died later of his injuries at St. Mary's Medical Center.

Authorities said the minivan left the scene of the crash but was pursued by witnesses who were able to identify the driver.
