LAUDERHILL, FL - Divers with Plantation Fire Rescue worked to free a driver who had accidentally traveled into a canal Sunday night.

According to Local 10, the incident happened at an apartment complex parking lot within the 4200 block of 19th Street sometime before 9 p.m.

Officials at the scene say high floodwaters may have caused the driver to misjudge the edge of the parking lot and travel into the canal, where their vehicle became completely submerged.

The driver was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries. Divers continued to search the canal for any other victims, though none have been reported as of Monday morning.
