BOCA RATON, FL - A Boca Raton man was jailed over the weekend after authorities said he crashed into a vehicle while fleeing from a Palm Beach County Sheriff's detective.
According to Boca News Now, the detective from the PBCSO was trying to serve a warrant on Adonis Batista Saturday. He was wanted by police in Delray Beach for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Authorities say Batista refused to respond to the detective, locked himself in his Chevy Malibu and sped away from the scene on SW 66th Avenue. He crashed a short distance away, slamming into a van that was parked on SW65th Way.
After he tried to get away on foot, Batista was taken into custody by police in a nearby backyard. He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail before being released on $1,000 bond early Sunday morning.
No one appears to have been injured in the crash.
