BOYNTON BEACH, FL - A man is facing charges in connection with a crash in Boynton Beach that killed a motorcyclist on Sunday evening, according to the Palm Beach Post.
81-year-old Richard James Sullivan was arrested following the accident, which took place in the area of Ocean Avenue and Federal Highway shortly before 6 p.m.
Police said Sullivan was driving a Cadillac SUV on Ocean Avenue when he made a turn in front of a Suzuki motorcycle driven by 58-year-old Neuvaneide Bezerra. Bezerra, a northern Broward County resident, died of her injuries at Delray Medical Center.
Sullivan and a passenger in his car were unhurt.
A police report said Sullivan showed signs of alcohol use and records from the Palm Beach County Jail indicated he faces a charge of driving under the influence and wrongful death.
According to studies by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 75% of all motorcycle accidents and 50% of fatal accidents involve two vehicles. The second is usually a car, and the motorcyclist almost always fares worse.
