MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL - State troopers are investigating a New Year's Day crash in West Miami-Dade that left four people dead and three injured.

According to WPLG, a Hyundai Elantra and a Chevy Tahoe collided at the intersection of Northwest 79th Avenue and Flagler Street shortly before 4 a.m.  One woman and three men in the Elantra were pronounced dead at the scene, while three 16-year-old boys in the Tahoe were transported to Kendall Regional Hospital. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol determined that the driver of the Tahoe had a flashing yellow light when it entered the intersection, while the driver of the Elantra had a flashing red light as it turned onto Flagler Street at the time of the crash.

The FHP is trying to determine whether alcohol, drugs, or excessive speed were contributing factors in the wreck.  The names of the four victims have not yet been released.
